Leading healthcare company Mako Medical Laboratories recently launched its phlebotomy program accredited by the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians. The program aims to train and equip aspiring phlebotomists with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their profession.
Phlebotomy is the process of drawing blood from a patient for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes. It is essential to modern health care, as blood tests help doctors diagnose and monitor various medical conditions. Phlebotomists are trained healthcare professionals who specialize in this service. They work in multiple settings, including hospitals, clinics, and laboratories.
Chad Price, the CEO of Mako Medical, said, “We’re pleased by the success of our phlebotomist training program and are excited to be expanding the school.”
The ASPT-accredited phlebotomy program offered by Mako Medical is a comprehensive training program that covers both theoretical and practical aspects of phlebotomy. The curriculum is designed to meet the requirements of the ASPT certification exam. The program includes classroom lectures, hands-on training, and clinical rotations. Upon completing the program, graduates are eligible to take the ASPT certification exam and become certified phlebotomy technicians.
The new phlebotomy training is offered through Mako University, or Mako U, a benefit provided to employees at no charge to Mako team members. Students must attend two four-hours virtual classes every week and complete online assignments. After a month of study, hands-on training begins with mannequins, then with actual people.
Before taking the certification test, students have to conduct 25 successful draws, then an additional 75 during clinical rotation. They must then pass a written test and a practical blood draw simulation.
